Site Visits Conducted in Bozova and Halfeti Districts of Şanlıurfa under the Technical Assistance Facility to Support Earthquake Recovery in the Municipal Infrastructure Sector.

Within the scope of the Technical Assistance Facility to Support Earthquake Recovery in the Municipal Infrastructure Sector, implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change, site visits were carried out in the Bozova and Halfeti districts of Şanlıurfa on 18–19 June 2026 to monitor the ongoing municipal infrastructure investments.

As part of the programme, a courtesy visit was paid to Mr. Mehmet Kasım Gülpınar, Mayor of Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality. The meeting was attended by Ms. Selda Güngör, Head of the Monitoring and Evaluation Division of the Department of Project Preparation and Monitoring under the Directorate General for EU and Foreign Relations of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change; Mr. Muharrem Erdem Tonguç, Senior Contract Management Expert; Ms. Ahu Yücesoy Kilianski, Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Expert; Mr. Emin İzol, General Manager of ŞUSKİ; Mr. Birol Atay, Head of Division for International Operations at ILBANK; Ms. Ayfer Karaalp, Technical Expert; and Mr. Mehmet Akif Dönder, Head of the Construction Implementation Unit at the Gaziantep Regional Directorate of ILBANK.

During the meeting, the participants reviewed the overall progress of the construction works being implemented in the Bozova and Halfeti districts. Discussions focused on the current implementation status, technical and administrative issues encountered during implementation, inter-institutional coordination, and financial matters.

The programme also included visits to the project sites, where the ongoing works were inspected on site. During the field inspections, representatives of the contractor and the relevant institutions provided updates on the implementation progress, while the work programme, current achievements and upcoming activities were reviewed. 

The project aims to contribute to the recovery and strengthening of municipal infrastructure in the earthquake-affected region and is expected to play a significant role in improving the water supply and wastewater infrastructure of Şanlıurfa. The site visits are expected to support the effective implementation of the project and further strengthen coordination among the institutions involved.
