The Opening Event of the “Strengthening National Climate Finance Capacity Project” was held in Ankara on 2 June 2026.

The Opening Event of the IPA III period “Strengthening National Climate Finance Capacity Project,” financed by the European Union and implemented by the Presidency of Climate Change, is being held in Ankara on 2 June 2026.

The event brings together representatives from public institutions, international organizations, the financial sector, academia, and other relevant stakeholders to discuss efforts aimed at strengthening Türkiye’s capacity in the field of climate finance.

The event commenced with the screening of a short introductory video focusing on the importance of climate finance and its contribution to sustainable development goals. 

During the opening session, participants were addressed by Maria Luisa Wyganowski, Head of Cooperation Section at the European Union Delegation to Türkiye; Bulent Ozcan, Director General for Financial Cooperation and Project Implementation at the Directorate for EU Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Mehrali Ecer, Vice President of the Presidency of Climate Change; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. İ. Raci BAYER, Head of the Department of Project Implementation at the Directorate General for European Union and Foreign Relations of our Ministry.

The speeches highlighted the strategic importance of financing mechanisms in combating climate change, the effective utilization of national and international financial resources, the strengthening of public-private sector cooperation, and the necessity of enhancing institutional capacity to achieve Türkiye’s climate targets. It was also emphasized that the activities to be carried out under the project would contribute to increasing knowledge and expertise in climate finance, strengthening coordination among relevant stakeholders, and introducing international best practices to Türkiye.

The project is expected to contribute significantly to strengthening Türkiye’s institutional capacity in climate finance and supporting sustainable development goals.
